Hanoi (VNA) – Former Philippine President Fidel Ramos is due to head to Beijing on August 8 for initial talks with Chinese authorities.
This is Ramos’s first visit to China since he was named as the special envoy by the Philippine President last month, according to the Philippines News Agency.
The Philippines filed a case contesting China’s claims in the East Sea and submitted it to the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, the Netherlands.
According to the ruling issued by the PCA on July 12, China has no historic rights for waters in the East Sea and it has also no legal basis to claim historic rights to resources within the so called “nine-dash line”.
Philippine President Duterte affirmed that the verdict of the PCA will be a foundation for future negotiations relating to territorial disputes between the two countries.-VNA
