Hanoi (VNA) – Philippine authorities said on May 28 that local police have killed four drug suspects in the southern city of General Santos, raising the total suspects shot dead to 14 after President-elect Rodrigo Duterte vowed to crack down on crime.
Local authorities also affirmed that the shootings are legal because police returned fire during the raids.
Police in Davao reported that unidentified gunmen murdered two other people suspected of trafficking drugs.
The 71-year-old Duterte, Davao City Mayor has won the country’s presidential election with his vow to ensure security and social order in the city and the nation.
During the campaign, Duterte pledged to wipe out criminals within three to six months after taking office.-VNA
