A scientific seminar on the life and career of Phan Boi Chau and the Dong Du movement was held by the Thua Thien-Hue provincial Association of Science and History in Hue city on October 29.
The event was to commemorate the 110 th anniversary of the Dong Du movement and the 75 th death anniversary of Phan Boi Chau in Hue.
Twelve reports sent to the seminar highlighted Phan Boi Chau’s patriotism while he was abroad (1905-1925) and under house arrest in Hue (1925-1940).
Master of Philosophy Phan Cong Tuyen said many of Phan Boi Chau’s philosophical and political thoughts are still alive today.
Do Manh Hung said Phan Boi Chau had the earliest thoughts on women and women’s rights in Vietnam and stood deservedly as leader in the fight for gender equality in the 1920s and 1930s.
In a report “Phan Boi Chau with Hue youths and students in 1925-1940”, Tran Nguyen Khanh Phong said their meeting fuelled a fighting spirit in schools, evidenced by student strikes in the Hue high school for the gifted and Dong Khanh school in April 1927.
Reports also mentioned his writing career with more than 1,200 pieces of political and art commentaries.
He also used writing as a tool for the national liberation campaign.-VNA
