Hanoi (VNA) – Petrol price increases in April contributed to the 0.32 percent rise in Hanoi’s consumer price index (CPI) month on month, the municipal statistics office said on April 25.

The capital city’s April CPI grew by 2.18 percent from the same period last year.

The statistics office said the hike was mainly fuelled by transport fees. The surge in global petroleum prices in early April led to the prices of A95 and A92 gasoline augmented by 520 VND per litre.

Food and catering services also cost consumers a little more than the previous month since the lingering drought in some food production hubs has shrunk supplies and boosted grain food and foodstuff prices in Hanoi.

While pork prices climbed due to a supply shortage, vegetable prices went up as the winter crop has already ended, while the spring – summer crop has just begun, the office noted.

It also pointed out the upward trend in the costs of housing, electricity, water, fuel materials and building materials.-VNA
