At areception for Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Vice Standing Chairman of theVietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council, in Hanoi on January 19, Maisaid her commission will support the council to host the all-level Buddhistcongresses and progress to the eighth national Buddhist Congress.
She hailedthe VBS for conducting charitable activities and joining hands with the Partyand State to help poor people and ethnic minority groups to enjoy a warm traditionalLunar New Year (Tet) festival.
MostVenerable Thich Thanh Nhieu said the VBS celebrated its 35th founding anniversary in 2016 and has established executive boards across 63cities and provinces nationwide.
He notedthat the eighth national Buddhist Congress will take place in Hanoi at the endof this year.
The sameday, Mai met with Priest Tran Xuan Manh, Vice President and General Secretaryof the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics, during which she said she hopes the committeewill promote its role as a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to make moreactive contributions to the Catholic community as well as national building anddevelopment.-VNA
