Party leader’s visit to RoK marks new stage in bilateral ties

The recently-concluded visit by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the Republic of Korea (RoK) marks the opening of a new stage of development with bright prospects in the two countries’ relations, said a Vietnamese official.

Talking to themedia about the significance and outcomes of the visit, Hoang Binh Quan,Head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Commissionfor External Affairs, said that it created a strong impetus for thestrategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

This is also an occasion for the Communist Party of Vietnam toenhance its relation with political parties in the RoK, first of all theruling Saenuri party, in order to strengthen the political foundationof bilateral ties, according to Quan.

He alsonoted that the visit demonstrated Vietnam’s policy on proactive andactive integration into the international community as well as ontreasuring and giving priority to the ties with regional countries anddeepening relations with its important partners.

Looking back at activities during the visit, the Party official saidall talks and meetings took place in an open, friendly and sincereatmosphere and dealt with important and practical issues relating tobilateral ties and regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Most importantly, the two sides adopted aseven-point joint statement, which put forward major orientations andmeasures to step up cooperation in politics, diplomacy, trade,investment and security and defence.

Fourcooperative agreements were signed during the visit, including a creditprogramme worth 12 billion USD to assist prioritised developmentprojects in Vietnam .

The CommunistParty of Vietnam and the Saenuri also inked a document on cooperationfor the 2015-2016 period on the basis of their 2011 Memorandum ofUnderstanding.

Hoang Binh Quan emphasizedthat all ministries, sectors, localities and people from all walks oflife should do their best in order to realise the agreed orientationsfor cooperation between the two countries.

“We are confident about the new development and good outcomes in the Vietnam-RoK relations,” he said in conclusion.-VNA
