Party leader highlights significance of Vietnam-Laos ties

Vientiane (VNA) – Amidst the current changing world full of complicatedhappenings, the special Vietnam-Laos solidarity is important to both countriesthan ever, stated Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

He wasaddressing nearly 2,000 lecturers, officials and students of the Lao NationalUniversity in Vientiane on November 25, as part of his on-going official visitto Laos.

The Partyleader underscored that Vietnam will do its utmost to keep the sacred relationshipevergreen and everlastingly stable.

Lookingthrough history of traditional ties between the two Parties and States, he saidthat Vietnam and Laos always see each other as a faithful comrade and friend, walkinghands in hands together and give each other whole-hearted material andspiritual support through the most difficult periods.

During thepast 30 years of renewal, the two countries have fully inherited and promoted thesound relationship founded by late Presidents Ho Chi Minh and KaysonePhomvihane and nurtured by generations of leaders of both countries.

Importantachievements in the bilateral ties have contributed to the construction andmaintenance of the peaceful regional and international environment, creatingfavourable conditions for the renovation and socio-economic development and nationaldevelopment and defence in each country, enhancing the position of both Vietnamand Laos in the regional and world arena, he said.

As thecurrent regional and global situations generated challenges and opportunitiesto the respective countries’ construction and defence, Vietnam and Laos havestill gained important achievements in various fields, proving the right developmentpath that their Parties have chosen, noted the Party leader.

Both the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Communist Party and the 10th Congress of theLao People’s Revolutionary Party reaffirmed the persistent goal of nationalindependence and socialism as well as the determination to continue speeding upthe renewal course in a comprehensive and synchronous manner, he stated.

Expressinghis sentiments towards the youth of both countries, he stressed that the youthis the backbone of a country and the pioneering force of the revolution as wellas a great part of the current society, the subject to create the future and thefuture owners of the nation.

He urged youngstersof both nations to work hard to improve their knowledge and morality, becominga high quality workforce that play a driving role for the success of theindustrialisation and modernisation in each country as well as the stronger Vietnam-Laosspecial ties in the new period.

Leaders put strongtrust on the youth, he affirmed, expressing his hope that the youngsters will increaseexchange, while maintaining and promoting the priceless treasure of thefaithful and pure ties between Vietnam and Laos.

Founded in1996, the National University of Laos is the only national university of theSoutheast Asian country. It has provided courses in 11 majors, includingeconomics and business administration, architecture, engineering, agricultureand education.

On theoccasion, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong presented 30 sets ofcomputers to the university.

Earlier thesame day, the Party leader and the Vietnamese delegations laid a wreath at theHeroic Martyrs’ Monument in Vientiane and visited the Kaysone Phomvihane Museumand President Souphanouvong Commemorative House.-VNA
