Party head lauds Cambodian NA President’s visit

Hanoi, (VNA) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said on June 25that the visit by President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech HengSamrin was a significant event in a series of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

The Party leader made the statement while receiving Heng Samrin and hisdelegation in Hanoi.

General Secretary Trong congratulated Cambodia on it successes in the localelections this month, and praised achievements the country attained under therein of King Norodom Sihamoni and the Royal Government.

He said the Party, State and people of Vietnam always attach special importanceto the relationship with Cambodia, and thanked the latter for its assistancefor Vietnam’s cause of national liberation in the past and national constructionand defence at present.

For his part, NA President Samrin affirmed that Cambodia always cherishes theenormous role of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in saving the Cambodian peoplefrom the genocidal Pol Pot regime.

He also emphasised that the Government, National Assembly and people ofCambodia view Vietnam as “a good brother, good friend, good neighbour” and willcontinue to support Vietnam on regional and international issues.

Praising Vietnam’s socio-economic development and improved living standard, HengSamrin said he is convinced Vietnam will continue its achievements inindustrialisation and modernisation.

Both Party leader Trong and NA President Heng Samrin said they want to furtherdevelop the friendship and cooperation between their two countries.

Duringhis visit, the Cambodian NA leader, who is also Chairman of the NationalCouncil of the Solidarity Front for Development of the Cambodian Motherland, attendeda ceremony held in Hanoi on June 24 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations. He also took part in thethird conference of the Presidents of the front organisations of Cambodia, Laosand Vietnam on June 25.-VNA
