- A high-ranking delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam led by Ha Thi Khiet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for Mass Mobilisation, visited Cambodia on November 4-5.

The delegation was received by President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Prime Minister Hun Sen, Honourary CPP President and National Assembly Chairman Samdech Hen Samrin, and CPP Vice President and President of the Senate Samdech Say Chhum.

At the meetings, Khiet congratulated achievements Cambodia has made in its social-economic development and believed that Cambodia would reap greater successes in the future.

She thanked the Cambodian leaders and people for their precious support and assistance to Vietnam in the past struggles for national liberation and reunification as well as in the country-building and protection today.

She affirmed that Vietnam always treasures and will try its best to preserve, promote and pass on to later generations the traditional friendship and solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia on the basis of principles and orientations agreed by the two Parties and States.

The Cambodian leaders appreciated the effective bilateral cooperation in all fields in the past years, especially the success of Vietnamese enterprises in their country.

They thanked Vietnam for helping Cambodia escape from the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime and revive the country in the past as well as the current national construction and development.

They also confirmed that the fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation for long-term stability between Vietnam and Cambodia will further develop and become a valuable asset that needs to be preserved, promoted and passed on to next generations.

The hosts agreed to direct ministries and sectors to properly and effectively implement joint statements, agreements and conventions signed between the two nations while boosting coordination in raising awareness of the bilateral relationship among the public, especially young people.

The two countries should accelerate the completion of land border demarcation and marker planting in order to build a shared border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development while creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese and Cambodian residents living in respective countries.

Earlier, the Vietnamese communists held talks with a CPP delegation led by Men Saman. The two sides informed each other of the situation of each party and each country and shared experience in the organisation of the apparatus and mass mobilisation as well as discussed coordination between the two Parties’ mass mobilisation commissions.

During her visit, Khiet worked with Vice President and General Secretary of the National Council of United Front for Solidarity and Development of Cambodia Min Khin and visited Siem Reap province. She also presented gifts to Cambodians and those of Vietnamese origin.-VNA
