Thai Binh (VNA) – General Secretary of theCommunist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong on February 1 paid tribute toNguyen Duc Canh, one of the founders of the CPV, in a memorial site dedicatedto the late leader in Thai Thuy district, the northern province of Thai Binh onthe occasion of his 110th birthday.

The delegation recalled the revolutionary life of Canhwho devoted his whole life for the Party and people.

Canh was born on February 2, 1908 in Diem Dienvillage, in today Thai Thuy district of Thai Binh.

Being enlightened by the revolutionary ideology, hejoined various patriotic movements in 1925-26 when he was studying in ThanhChung Nam Dinh High School. Then he joined the Vietnam Youth RevolutionAssociation, which was a turning point in his revolutionary life.

In 1928, he was assigned to work as Hai Phong PartySecretary. In 1929, the working class movement had developed well and Canh hadmade lots of contributions to Tong Cong Hoi Do Bac Ky (the predecessor of theVietnam General Confederation of Labour).

In March 1929, at House No 5D, Ham Long street ofHanoi, the first Communist unit in Vietnam was established with eight membersincluding Canh.

In June 1929, he was elected to be a provisionalmember of the Central Committee of the Indochina Communist Party.

In April 1931, he was captured by the French. Thoughhe was tortured by the invaders, he did not reveal any secrets of the Party. Hewas sentenced to death by the French and was killed in 1932.

During his stay in Thai Binh, General Secretary NguyenPhu Trong visited and presented Tet gifts to 96-year-old Vietnam’s HeroicMother Nguyen Thi Tuat in Tay An and 91-year old veteran communist Tran ThiMien in An Ninh commune.

In a working session with leaders of Thai Binh, theParty chief recognised improvements in the province, especially intransportation system, infrastructure and local’s living conditions.

Noting that Thai Binh, a rice bowl of the country, hasmade a number of achievements, with rice production of 13 tonnes per hectaresand transformed economic structure, he held that this is a firm foundation for theprovince to thrive.

He also asked the locality to focus on Party building anddeveloping the sound political system. The provincial Party Committee shoulddirect the implementation of the Party’s instruction in Party building toprevent “self-evolution” and “self-transformation” and degradation on politicalideology and lifestyle.

On the occasion of the upcoming traditional New Year,the Party leader wished leaders and locals of Thai Binh good health, prosperityand success in fulfilling targets set in resolutions of the Party’s 12th Congress and the provincial Party Committee’s Congress.-VNA
