Vietnam and Laos should continue working to deepen their political ties, coordinate closely in defence, security, and external affairs, improve economic, cultural, education, scientific and technological links, and step up ministry, sector and locality affiliations, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has said.

Hanoi (VNA)– Vietnam and Laos should continue working to deepen their political ties,coordinate closely in defence, security, and external affairs, improveeconomic, cultural, education, scientific and technological links, and step upministry, sector and locality affiliations, Party General Secretary Nguyen PhuTrong has said.

He made the remarksat his reception for Politburo member, standing member of the Secretariat ofthe Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, and Vice President of Laos PhankhamViphavanh and his entourage in Hanoi on July 18.

The Lao guests are in Hanoi for the 55th anniversary of Vietnam-Laosdiplomatic ties and the ceremony marking 40 years since the signing of the Vietnam-LaosTreaty of Amity and Cooperation.

The Party chief stated that Vietnam strongly supports the reform in Laos andexpressed his belief that Lao people will gain new and bigger achievements inthe effort.

He said he is gladthat the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the twocountries have been growing efficiently across the board, contributing hugelyto each country’s nation-building and defence cause as well as to peace,stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world atlarge. 

The two sides shouldbe proactively implementing productively reached agreements, coordinate insoundly organizing activities of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and SolidarityYear 2017, and disseminate widely the bilateral special friendship among theiryoung people, and friends worldwide, he noted.

Phankham Viphavanhwas delighted that the growing Laos-Vietnam ties have brought tangible benefitsfor the two countries’ people, and thanked Vietnam for its immense andproductive help to Lao people.

He asserted that Laos will work together with Vietnam to foster, preserve, andpromote the special Laos-Vietnam relations to pass it on younger generations,and implement reached agreements efficiently.-VNA
