Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam(CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong wrapped up his successful officialvisits to Russia and Hungary from September 5-11.

The visits were made at the invitations of Russian PresidentVladimir Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

During his stay in Russia from September 5-8, Trong heldtalks with Putin, and met with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Chairman of theState Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin, Deputy Speaker of the FederationCouncil of Russia Andrey Turchak. He laid flowers at the Tomb of the UnknownSoldier in memory of heroes who fell down in the Great Patriotic War, paidfloral tribute to the leader of the world’s working class and workers’movement, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, at his mausoleum, and laid flowers atPresident Ho Chi Minh’s statue in Moscow. He also visited Kaluga province.

In the talks and meetings, both sides discussed in depthmajor orientations and measures to create a new driving force for bilateralcooperation in all fields, and agreed to do their utmost to develop theVietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in a profound and effectivemanner.

They reached consensus on maintaining high-level delegationexchanges, political consultations and strategic dialogue via all channels, andcontinuously consolidating political trust to boost and expand comprehensivecooperation.

They also achieved unanimity on coordination in organisingthe Russia Year in Vietnam and the Vietnam Year in Russia in celebration of the25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Basic Principlesfor Vietnam-Russia Friendship in 2019 and the 70th anniversary ofdiplomatic ties in 2020.

The two sides exchanged opinions on several regional andglobal issues of mutual concern, and shared a similar point of view on thenecessity to solve disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international lawand the United Nations Charter without using or threatening to use force.

On the occasion, the two sides issued a Joint Statement andsigned important cooperation agreements in numerous fields.

While in Hungary from September 8-11, the Vietnamese Party chiefheld talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and met with President Janos AderDeputy and Speaker of the National Assembly Hende Csaba, attended theconference of rectors of Vietnam and Hungary’s universities, and visitedSzentendre city.

During the talks and meetings, both sides affirmed theirdetermination to foster effective collaboration in all fields, especiallyeconomics, trade, investment, defence, education and training, science andtechnology, health and culture.

They agreed to step up consultations on regional andinternational issues of shared concern, and maintain effective coordination atmultilateral forums and organisations, particularly the UN, the Asia-EuropeMeeting (ASEM) forum, and the Mekong-Danube Cooperation Initiative.

Vietnam backs Hungary’s efforts to expand cooperation withASEAN nations, while Hungary commits to helping promote the Vietnam-EU ties.

On this occasion, the two sides issued a Joint Statement onthe Establishment of Vietnam-Hungary Comprehensive Partnership, and signedseven cooperation documents to create a legal framework for the development ofbilateral relations.-VNA
