Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong arrived in Tokyo on September 15, beginning his four-day official to Japan at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The Party chief was welcomed at Haneda international airport by leaders of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong, the Vietnamese Embassy’s staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in the country.
The visit takes place at a time when bilateral relations have been flourishing.
The visit also aims to strengthen political trust, economic links and all-round cooperation while deepening the Extensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries for peace and prosperity of Asia.
It forms part of Vietnam’s major diplomatic activities in 2015 to actualise the country’s foreign policy of independence, self-determination, multilateral diversification and intensification of relations.
Vietnam and Japan established diplomatic ties in September 1973. In 2014, two-way trade exceeded 27.6 billion USD, of which Vietnam’s exports stood at more than 14.7 billion USD and imports at nearly 13 billion USD. In the first half of this year, the figure reached 13.9 billion USD.-VNA
