The 11th Party Central Committee convened its 12th plenary in Hanoi on October 5 under the chair of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
During the week-long event, discussions will be focused on socio-economic performance in 2015, socio-economic development plans for 2016, personnel preparations for the 12th Party Central Committee, and elections of the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for 2016-2021.
In opening the meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong stressed that the correct assessment of the national socio-economic situation from the beginning of this year until now and for the entire year will serve as an important premise to make accurate evaluation of the implementation of socio-economic development tasks and targets set by the 11th National Party Congress and the Party Central Committee’s resolutions. The assessment will also serve as a foundation to build and successfully carry out socio-economic development plans for 2016, as well as socio-economic development targets for 2016-2020, and the 2010-2020 socio-economic development strategy.
The Party leader urged the meeting to pay attention to analysing the impacts of abnormal regional and global developments on Vietnam’s socio-economic affairs, and forecasting developments in the remaining months of 2015 and 2016, given the changing trends of the world market and the country’s increasingly intensive integration, in order to set forth key targets, priority tasks and measures towards creating breakthroughs for socio-economic development for 2016 and the following years.
Regarding personnel preparations for the next tenure of the Party Central Committee, at this plenary session, the Politburo is expected to submit to the Central Committee a report on personnel plans for the Politburo, the Secretariat, and key leaders. The outcomes of personnel proposals made in two rounds by Party committees and Party organisations at provinces and cities as well as centrally-run agencies.
The Party leader asked the Central Committee to thoroughly study the reports and other involved documents to give their opinions, particularly about criteria for re-election of current members of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat.
He also requested the committee to work to create a high consensus on the key issues which will decide the success of the elections of deputies for the 14th National Assembly and members of People’s Councils at all levels for 2016-2021 tenure, which are of great importance to the country.-VNA
