Hanoi (VNA) – The fourth “Bua Liem Vang” (Golden Hammer & Sickle)Press Awards 2019 honoured journalists and their works about the Party buildingin Hanoi on January 15.

Thisyear, “Bua Liem Vang” has two additional awards for the best work on theprotection of the Party’s ideological foundation and for the best work by anoverseas Vietnamese author.

TheVietnam News Agency (VNA) won three prizes, including one second prize for aphoto series about the second summit between the Democratic People’s Republicof Korea (DPRK) and the US in Hanoi and the official visit to Vietnam byChairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the State Affairs Commission of theDPRK Kim Jong-un.

Twoconsolation prizes went to the VNA Television Channel (VNews) and the DomesticNews Department.

Speakingat the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the winning works werethe epitome of political thinking, enthusiasm, intellect and conscience,showing the high level of social responsibility of journalists for the country,people, and the Party.

Emphasisingthe special significance of 2020 which will mark the 90th founding anniversaryof the Party and 75 years since the country’s independence, PM Phuc said in thecontext of difficulties facing the country in terms of the environment,defence, security and foreign affairs, the entire political system, people andthe press needed to step up.

Hesaid that rapid development of science and technology in the era of the FourthIndustrial Revolution and the explosion of information technology had set newrequirements for the national press.

TheVietnam Revolutionary Press should continue to promote its important role asthe voice of the Party, State and political, social, professionalorganizations, as well as a reliable forum for the people, he said.

Atthe same time, the press must also fight hostile forces and misrepresentations,the PM said.

ThePM added that he hopes the press will continue contributing to therevolutionary cause of the Party and the nation as well as strive to realisethe aspiration of building a strong and prosperous Vietnam.

“BuaLiem Vang” is an annual award organised by the Communist Party of VietnamCentral Committee’s Organisation Commission in collaboration with Nhan dan(People) newspaper, Tap chi cong san (Communist Review), Vietnam Television andVietnam Journalists Association to recognise outstanding journalistic worksabout politics, ideology, organisation, and morality, dissemination, inspection,mobilisation, foreign policy and anti-corruption efforts.

Theworks were published and broadcast in print and on radio and television in2019.

Thefourth “Bua Liem Vang” 2019 was launched in January 2019. The organisersreceives a total of 1,660 works, including 783 in print, 300 online, 377 forTV, 174 for radio, and 26 photos.

Thefifth edition was launched at the awards ceremony./.
