Parliamentary leader receives ADB Country Director in Vietnam

Hanoi (VNA)– Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue met with CountryDirector of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Vietnam Andrew Jeffries inHanoi on December 5, on the sidelines of the Vietnam Economic Forum 2021.

Showing support forthe ADB’s opinions raised at the forum, Chairman Hue paid special attention tothe bank’s recommendations related to the size of a policy package aiding economicrecovery. He agreed with the bank that international cooperation holds greatimportance to increasing resources for economic recovery.

He said the lender hasalways been an important partner of Vietnam, noting that amid the COVID-19pandemic that remains complicated around the globe and the coming into being of a newvariant, the country will have to carry out an economic stimulus package thatis big and long enough to maintain and boost driving forces for growth,overcome difficulties caused by the pandemic, and develop sustainably in thetime ahead.

The top legislatorexpressed his hope that the ADB will keep assisting Vietnam in the pandemiccombat and economic recovery. He called on the bank to provide Vietnam with capitalfor investment projects and policy advice on sustainable development, as wellas financial and technical support for some NA agencies to better fulfill theirtasks.

The Chairman also asked the ADB to continue helping the NA and policy-makingbodies of Vietnam improve their forecasting capacity and vision so as to makemore precise and timely decisions.

For his part, Jeffries highlighted some of the bank’s recent activities inVietnam, including funding several activities of local agencies, especiallyscientific and policy studies, giving policy advice, and providing loans.

He affirmed that theADB’s task in Vietnam is to cooperate with and support the development in thecountry./.
