– Pakistan vowed to work closely with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to deepen cooperation between the two sides, said new Pakistani Ambassador to ASEAN Mohammad Aquil Nadeem.

He made the statement at a ceremony where he presented his Credentials to Secretary-General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh in Jakarta, Indonesia on December 1.

At the meeting, Secretary-General Minh congratulated Ambassador Nadeem on his new post and spoke highly of Pakistan’s efforts to enhance ties with ASEAN, notably its technical support programme in the field of education.

For his part, Nadeem said Pakistan looks forward to coordinating with the ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat to further strengthen the bilateral relations.

He expressed his delight at the increased trade flows between Pakistan and the ASEAN member states and believed the ties will expand further, particularly in economy.

The success of the 5th ASEAN-Pakistan Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee (AP-JSCC 5) Meeting held in 2011 has smoothed the way for their partnership spanning multiple fields, he said.

He stressed the need for the AP-JSCC 6 in the first quarter of 2016 to further discuss ASEAN-Pakistan sectoral cooperation.-VNA
