Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Damhosted a reception in Hanoi on June 16 for a delegation of Overseas Vietnameseexperts and scientists who gave recommendations on how to develop Vietnam’s integratedcircuit (IC) industry to tap opportunities from the 4.0 industrial revolution.

The delegates held that Vietnam’s IC technology has seenconsiderable progress in the recent 10 years in terms of design. However, ICproduction remains modest, they said.

According to Prof. Dr. Dang Luong Mo, the domestic IC humanresources have yet to meet requirements in terms of both quality and quantity. He proposed that Vietnam should train tens of thousands of additional ICengineers in the next five years.

He stressed the need for synchronous policies as well asnational-level coordination for the sustainable IC development, along with the creationof an IC ecosystem nationwide.

The scientists recommended that Vietnam should focus on ICdesign and human resources development, as well as the supply of outsourcingservices in IC design.

At the same time, it is necessary to tap the resources ofworld leading experts, including overseas Vietnamese, for the teaching and technologytransfer activities in the field in Vietnam, they said.

Lauding the delegates’ ideas, Deputy PM Dam stressed that Vietnamneeds the support of international experts and scientists, including Vietnamesescientists abroad, to boost the growth of its IC industry in particular andscience-technology in general.
