Overseas Vietnamese welcome Lunar New Year

The event was attended by Laos ’ PermanentDeputy Prime Minister Somsavad Lengsavath, Deputy Prime Minister andDefence Minister Douangchay Phichith and other high-ranking officials.

On addressing the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador TaMinh Chau said that 2010 saw Vietnam and Laos recording manyachievements in developing their economies, maintaining socio-economicstability and national construction and defence.

Both countries successfully organised grand celebrations, helping toraise their prestige and position in the region and the world arena,said the Vietnamese diplomat, noting that last year Vietnamsuccessfully chaired the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN).

Deputy PM Somsavad Lengsavath, on behalfof the Laotian Party and State, extended his New Year wishes to allVietnamese people and gave his thanks to the Party, State and Vietnamesepeople for their support during the Laotian revolution. He said hehoped that relations between the two countries would continue toprosper.

On the occasion, Tran Bac Ha, Chairman ofthe Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), presented1,000 computers to the Laotian Government.

On thesame day, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Egyptian capital city of Cairoalso held a New Year meeting with many of the Vietnamese communityand diplomats in attendance.

In Paris , over6,000 young Vietnamese people and students held an array of activitiesto celebrate the Tet festival and the traditional day for Vietnamesestudents, on January 9, as well as for 2011 Young Persons Year.

Hoang Nang Thang, Chairman of the Union of Vietnamese Students inFrance (UEVF), said the association will organise its annual programmeto welcome the Lunar New Year on the evening of Febuary 12 in theArmande Béjart Theatre.

The event is aimed atboosting exchanges and solidarity between overseas Vietnamese andpromoting the country’s image to international friends.

On those days, the UEVF in 17 cities and provinces across France willlaunch numerous activities, including arts programmes, a photoexhibition and film shows./.

ASEAN’s goods, culinary culture promoted in Europe

The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on October 21 signed a cooperation agreement with Uiseong county, Gyeongsangbuk-do province of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on sending local labourers to the RoK to work seasonally under the form of locality-to-locality collaboration between the two countries in the 2023 - 2027 period.

Tien Giang strives to reduce poverty rate to 0.87% this year
