Yen Bai (VNA) – Up to 105kg of ancient coins withthe oldest dating back to 118 BC were recently confiscated in Luc Yen district,the northern province of Yen Bai.
Deputy Director of the Yen Bai Museum Ly KimKhoa said the museum received the coins from police of Luc Yen district on July25.
Verification results show that the bronze coinsbelong to different periods. Some of them date back to 118 BC under the reignof Emperor Wudi of China’s Han Dynasty. Others were made between 621 and 1233.
On late April 23, police confiscated the coinsfrom two motorcyclists who showed suspicious acts while moving from Vinh Laccommune to Lieu Do commune of Luc Yen. The items were divided into two bagsweighing 105kg in total.
According to police investigation, the coins hadbeen unearthed by some local residents in Khau Ca hamlet of the district’s AnPhu commune and then sold to one of the two motorcyclists. -VNA
