Orbis supports paediatric eye care in central Vietnam

Orbis International and the central province of Thua Thien-Hue signed an implementation agreement for the project ”Strengthening Paediatric Eye Care Services in the central region of Vietnam” on August 27.
Orbis International and the central province of Thua Thien-Hue signed animplementation agreement for the project ”Strengthening PaediatricEye Care Services in the central region of Vietnam” on August 27.

Funded by Orbis International, the project will be carried out untilJune 30, 2018 with a total investment of 1.1 million USD.

Theaim of the project is to reduce the prevalence of blindness and visionimpairment in children. The project will improve access to paediatriceye care services at Hue Eye Hospital, and provide prophylacticretinopathy screening and treatment at Hue Central Hospital.

Concrete project activities include running practical training coursesthat will be taught by international experts, organising missions ofOrbis’s flying eye hospital and online consultancy programmes.Short-term training courses will also be held for Hue Eye Hospital’sophthalmologists to improve their skills in terms of communication,consultancy, management and medical research.

Founded in 1982,Orbis International is an international non-profit, non-governmentalorganisation dedicated to preserving eye sight worldwide. It implementedits first hospital-based programme in Vietnam in 1997.-VNA

Hanoi tightens control, prevention of monkeypox
