Orbis flying eye hospital arrives in Vietnam

ORBIS, an international non-governmental humanitarian organisation, on March 4 launched its fourth ORBIS Flying Eyes Hospital in the central city of Da Nang, aiming to help improve capacity for ophthalmological doctors in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

More than180 doctors, nurses and technicians from hospitals across the countryand Laos and Cambodia will receive intensive training in the treatmentof three leading blindness-causing diseases, including cataract,diabetic retinopathy and child eye diseases.

Theprogramme engages 24 ophthalmological experts from the UK, the US,Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland, who will give lectures andconduct online and in-the-spot surgeries.

During thethree-week programme, which is funded by FedEx Group, nearly 250patients will receive check-ups and some 80 patients will be providedwith free surgeries and laser treatment.

ORBIS is devoted to blindness prevention in developing countries through training and treatment programmes.-VNA

Hanoi tightens control, prevention of monkeypox
