Da Nang (VNA) - Nearly 300 professors, doctors and leading oncologists have gatheredin central Da Nang city to take part in a national conference on cancerprevention and control which opened on April 27.
More than80 studies and reports were presented during the conference, focusing on thetreatment methods for breast, liver and lung cancers and reviewing the cancertreatment results at hospitals across the country over the past years.
The two-dayconference provided a forum for leading oncologists nationwide to share professionalexperience as well as scientific advances in early detection of cancers and treatment,said Director of the Da Nang Oncology Hospital Nguyen Ut.
The eventalso aimed to encourage the research and application of technological advancesin improving healthcare services, he added.
Accordingto the World Health Organisation (WHO), there are about 23 million peopleliving with cancers worldwide. More than 14 million new cancer cases and 8million cancer-related deaths were reported each year.
In Vietnam,130,000-160,000 people are diagnosed with cancer and around 85,000-115,000people die of the diseases each year.
The mostcommon types of cancer in men are lung, liver and stomach cancer while breast,cervix and stomach cancer is the most common among women. The leading causes ofcancer are environmental pollution, habit of drinking beer and alcohol andsmoking.
Expertsbelieved that the number of people suffering from cancer is likely to double by2030.-VNA
