Hanoi (VNA) – A scientific seminar titled “Green solutions forcircular economy and waste management: Nordic experiences and policyimplications for Vietnam” was held in Hanoi on March 23.

This is an annual event jointly organised by the Ho Chi MinhNational Academy of Politics and the embassies of four Nordic countries ofDenmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden since 2018.

Vice President of the academy Assoc. Prof., Dr. Duong TrungY said that the seminar focused on how the Nordic region makes strongcommitments to the environment and circularity, and is leading the world ingreen innovation.

He emphasised the importance of efforts and the need forinternational cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

As Vietnam commits to transitioning to a greener andlow-carbon economy after the COVID-19 pandemic, this is really the right timeto mainstream the circular economy to effectively manage resources, limitemissions and waste, as well as boost environmental regeneration.

Studying international experience, including from Nordiccountries, on circular economy development will help Vietnam have more policysuggestions suitable to its actual conditions to build a strong economy, thuscontributing to improving the quality of life, he added.

Swedish Ambassador Ann Måwe said that Nordic countries wantto share their lessons and experience in order to be able to transform theeconomic model in a more sustainable direction.

Vietnam can start the process of developing a circulareconomy from treating garbage and waste by turning them into recycled andreused raw materials and fuel instead of the current way of landfilling andincineration.

In addition, it is necessary to maximise the public-privatepartnership model in building and developing a circular economy, she stressed.

At the seminar, representatives of several organisationsand companies from Nordic countries introduced and discussed circular businessmodels along with commitments to increasing recycling and reducing waste andcarbon emissions during operations./.
