Hanoi (VNA) - No Vietnamese citizens have been reported to bevictims in a strong earthquake that freshly hit Taiwan (China), said the VietnamEconomic and Cultural Office in Taipei

The office on February 7 launched a hotline, 00886988579362, to receiveinformation about Vietnamese citizens affected by the accident (if have).

The 6.5-magnitude quake was recorded at 11:50 p.m. ofFebruary 6 in Hualien city, leaving at least four deaths, 225 injured and 145others missing.

The Foreign Ministry directed the office to keep a closewatch on the situation to timely carry out citizen protection measures.

This is the strongest quake hit the popular Taiwanesetourist city in the past five decades. Several tall buildings were left tiltingon their sides. Over 560 houses are facing power cut, while 35,000 householdsare living without water.

Since February 4, over 100 quakes struck Hualien. Expertswarned that many others may hit the city in the following weeks.-VNA
