Nike Group to expand investment in Binh Duong

Sportswear giant Nike Group has affirmed that it will continue to expand production in Binh Duong province, said Nguyen Thanh Toan, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of the southern industrial hub.

Hanoi (VNA) – Sportswear giant Nike Group hasaffirmed that it will continue to expand production in Binh Duong province, Sai Gon Giai phong newspaper said, quoting Nguyen Thanh Toan, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of the southern industrialhub.

According to the newspaper, leaders of the Foreign InvestmentAgency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Binh Duong had ameeting with Nike representatives on October 6 on the reopening of productionin a safe manner.

At the meeting, participants agreed that currently, BinhDuong, HCM City, Dong Nai and Nike Group are effectively coordinating inpreparing for the resumption of the group’s production chain in the southeasternregion, especially Binh Duong where 20 factories of Nike are located.

Currently, many workers in Nike factories havereturned to work in the ‘new normal’ situation.

The same day, the Centre for Employment Services of BinhDuong said that a number of local firms have registered to recruit nearly 50,000labourers.

Also on October 6, the People’s Committee of the southernprovince of Long An said that it is striving to have 40 percent of total over13,483 firms with about 370,000 workers resuming operations until October 15.The figure is expected to reach 70 percent in the end of December.

Due to COVID-19, Long An is facing a severe shortage of labourers. Theprovincial People’s Committee has advised local firms to build their supportpolicies and plan to receive workers from other localities to Long An forworking as soon as possible. The locality will prioritise the vaccination againstCOVID-19 for workers, according to the committee./.
