Nguyen Duc Chung elected as Hanoi’s leader

Hanoi (VNA) – Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Hanoi Police Nguyen Duc Chung has been elected as Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee with 94.56 percent approval.

The election took place in Hanoi on December 4 during the fourth working day of the municipal People’s Council’s 14 th session for the 2011-2016 tenure.

Chung was elected as Vice Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee for 2015-2020 during its 16 th Congress in November.

Chung, 48, a native of the northern province of Hai Duong, currently holds the position of the 13 th National Assembly Deputy and is a member of the National Assembly’s Committee for Judicial Affairs.

He holds a doctorate degree in law, and two bachelor’s degrees in criminal investigation and business administration.

He was appointed Deputy Director of the Hanoi Police in September 2010, promoted to Director in September 2012 and given the rank of Major General in July 2013.

The new Chairman was also honoured with the title of Hero of the Armed Forces in 2004 and the Order of Fatherland Defence, first class, in 2007.

The 14 th session will last until December 5, focusing on socio-economic and defence-security development, and the State budget for 2015 and 2016.-VNA
