Nghe An (VNA) – The central province of Nghe An has set out plans towards the goal of taking good care of all local people with disabilities and orphans by 2020.
The locality will try to provide consultation on and facilitate access to social services such as education, vocational training, job placement and health care for the targeted groups, while offering incentives for businesses run by people with disabilities.
Investment will be made in upgrading infrastructure facilities and preferential loans to be given to households with disabled people and orphans so that they can start animal farming and other means of livelihood.
Local chapters of the Vietnam Fatherland Front will enhance public campaigns to mobilise resources for social welfare programmes targeting the vulnerable groups such as building houses and providing wheelchairs.
Nghe An has 98,335 people with disabilities and 6,922 orphans and abandoned children.
Over the past five years, around 50,000 people with disabilities and orphans have received regular allowances and health insurance coverage. More than 10,500 were given free health checks and treatment, including surgery, while 5,540 received vocational training.-VNA
