New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and delegates at the event (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern highlightedthe role of today women in promoting the economy in the post-COVID-19 pandemic and amid adverse impacts of the world economy while delivering aspeech at the Women’s Summit 2022 themed “Women Rising” in Ho Chi Minh City onNovember 16.
PM Ardern said Vietnam and NewZealand share similarities in the female workforce, gender equality and women andchildren-oriented activities.
The PM believed thatgender quality policy will be part of sustainable economic growth while tradepolicies and economic initiatives will create a driving force for women to joinbusiness and leadership activities.
According to the New Zealand leader, womenand children are hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic as it has worsened poverty and domesticviolence.
Over the past threedecades, the rate of New Zealand women joining the workforce has increased from54% to 70%. In Vietnam, the rate was 76% in 2019 which was rather high, giventhe world’s average was 47%.
She briefed participantsabout New Zealand’s policies in support of women in child care and pre-school education tohelp them become more resilient in economic downturn.
Meeting with Vietnamese andNew Zealand female entrepreneurs, the PM said, via empowerment, salary increases and respectfor domestic and foreign workers, New Zealand enterprises have striven to become not only the best in the world but also the best for the world.
Held by Forbes Vietnammagazine, the summit drew the participation of over 800 delegates, including outstanding women andinfluential leaders in the country and the region./.
