New terminal inaugurated at Cam Ranh Int’l Airport

Khanh Hoa (VNA) – Cam Ranh International Airportin the central province of Khanh Hoa on June 30 officially opened a newterminal for international services (first phase) which has a total investmentof over 3.7 trillion VND (164 million USD).

After 19 months of construction, the new terminal T2 wasput into use to ease the serious overloading of Terminal 1. It is the firstairport terminal in Vietnam to be built upon 4-star international standards.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Minister of TransportNguyen Van The underlined the importance of transport infrastructure toinvestment attraction and socio-economic development.

The operation of the new international terminal will notonly reduce burden for Cam Ranh International Airport which has been overloadedfor years but also improve infrastructure of the airport, he said, adding thatthe second runway of the airport is under construction and scheduled to beoperational at the end of this year.

The three-storey terminal sits on a site of over 50,000sq.m and is designed to shape like a swallow’s nest – a specialty and symbol ofKhanh Hoa.

The terminal is capable of serving 2.4 – 4.5 millionpassengers each year and after the second phase completes, its capacity canreach 6 – 8 million passengers per year by 2030.

On the inaugural day, two international flights toHangzhou City, China and Incheon, the Republic of Korea, will depart from thenew terminal on the evening of June 30.

On June 29, the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlinessaid it will operate international flights to and from Cam Ranh airport in thecentral province of Khanh Hoa at the new terminal T2 from this July.

Vietnam Airlines will run eight counters at T2, with twoserving business-class and Sky Priority passengers. The 210 sq.m businesslounge area is located on the second floor, serving Golden Lotus members andbusiness-class passengers.

Cam Ranh International Airport is the main aviation gateto the popular sea resort city of Nha Trang, the central coast province ofKhanh Hoa. Last year, tourist arrivals in the city reached 5.5 million. -VNA
