New school for Vietnamese pupils in Cambodia

A new primary school for overseas Vietnamese children was officially opened in Cambodia’s capital city of Phnom Penh on August 30, on the occasion of the 64 th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) and the August Revolution.

The Khmer-Vietnam Tan Tien school- a three-storey building with morethan 10 classrooms- is located on an area of 1,200 sq. m in Mienchaydistrict, Phnom Penh .

The finance for the school construction is provided by the StateCommittee for Overseas Vietnamese, the Ho Chi Minh City FatherlandFront Committee and several overseas Vietnamese benefactors.

Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Ngo Anh Dungsaid he highly appreciates the efforts that the Vietnamese community inthe country has made in the recent past.

The new, well-equipped and modern school will improve the primaryeducational atmosphere for children of overseas Vietnamese people andhelp to create a new generation of Vietnamese youth in Cambodia who arewell educated and hopefully will act as positive catalysts to thefurther development of the Vietnam-Cambodia traditional friendshiprelations, Dung added.

The school with a 20-member staff will provide training to over 400 pupils who live in the capital city of Phnom Penh .

On the occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, the StateCommittee for Overseas Vietnamese, the Fatherland Front Committees ofHo Chi Minh city and neighbouring provinces of Long An, Dong Nai and AnGiang together with many sponsors, Vietnamese and foreign alike,collected hundreds of millions of Vietnam dong and presented 1,000 setsof textbooks, 4,000 notebooks, computers, music teaching instrument tothe new school./.
