Long An (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Long An has beenallocated 28 billion VND (1.2 million USD) to carry out the national targetprogramme on sustainable poverty reduction in 2019, according to the provincialPeople’s Committee.
Of the total amount, nearly 16 billion VND will be used to supportinfrastructure development in very difficult communes in coastal and borderareas, and the remainder is set aside to assist production development for poorand near-poor households, help ethnic minority people work abroad, and maintainlocal infrastructure works.
Long An is home to 17 border communes who are beneficiaries of the sustainablepoverty reduction programme. The programme has caused positive impact on localsas it helps branch out socio-economic development in rural and remote areas,and create favourable conditions for the impoverished to get access to basicsocial services.
Last year, the province received 26 billion VND for the programme, and themoney contributed largely to reducing poverty rate from 4.03 percent in 2016 to2.22 percent in 2018.-VNA
