Singapore (VNA) – Nearly 12,000 dengue cases have been reported since the beginning of this year in Singapore, the Ministry of Health and the National Environment Agency (NEA) reported on September 27.

The two agencies said that the number of dengue cases could be more than 30,000 this year, higher than the record of 22,170 cases reported in 2013.

According to the two agencies, 11,924 dengue cases have been reported so far this year in 35 dengue clusters nationwide, of which Yishun Avenue 4 and Yishun Street 61 are the largest clusters with a total of 56 cases.

Seven dengue deaths have been reported in the reviewed period.

Singapore reported 11,286 dengue cases, including fourth deaths, in 2015.

Besides, there were 387 confirmed Zika cases in Singapore to date, including 16 pregnant women.

Experts have warned that hot weather and a lot of rain will create favourable condition for dengue and Zika outbreaks.-VNA
