HCM City (VNA) – The Committee for Information and Education of theCommunist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPV CC), the Ministry ofInformation and Communications and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association held anational press conference in Ho Chi Minh City on December 26 to review 2017’saccomplishments and launch tasks for 2018.

Speaking atthe event, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Hoang Vinh Baosaid press agencies have closely followed the Party guidance, supporting thecountry in maintaining political stability and strengthening social consensusand people’s trust in the Party, and fulfilling socio-economic, nationaldefence-security and diplomatic tasks.

Pressagencies published timely, honest, and multi-dimensional news covering allrealms, serving trustworthy forums of the people. They disseminated resolutionsof the Party, the National Assembly, the government and Directions of thePolitburo and the Secretariat, particularly the Resolution on Party buildingand rectification by the fourth plenum of the 12th CPV CC.

They alsocovered important political activities, major celebrations, complicated andsensitive issues such as compensation for residents in the central region inwake of the marine environment incident, social security and order in thecentral provinces of Ha Tinh and Nghe An, and land disputes in Hanoi, thenorthern provinces of Thai Nguyen and Bac Ninh, as well as the East Sea issue.

Reports atthe event showed that several newspapers and newswires mostly publishednegative issues with one-sided information, sparking social concerns.

Head of theCPV Central Committee's Commission for Information and Education Vo Van Thuong asked pressagencies to popularise political tasks for 2018, with a focus on theresolutions adopted by the 12th National Party Congress, thePolitburo, Secretariat and the legislature.

They wererequired to honour outstanding examples of fighting corruption and moraldegradation, and improve political firmness and capacity of reporters andeditors.-VNA
