National blood centre set up to ensure supplies for patients

Hanoi (VNA) – The National Institute of Haematology and BloodTransfusion (NIHBT) on April 4 announced the Ministry of Health’s decision toset up a national blood centre under the institute.

Director of the institute Bach Quoc Khanh said that the centre, equipped withmodern technology and high profession will support the development of bloodtransfusion sector in the country.

It also creates a premise to set up a national blood centre under the Ministryof Health, he added.

Carrying out the World Bank’s Regional Blood Transfusion Centres Project, theinstitute built a modern transfusion blood centre with capacity of 90,000 bloodunits per year. Particularly, the institute received 303,462 blood units in2017 and the number is expected to increase to 600,000 units by 2030.

The centre is established to organise blood transfusion and reserve blood fornational security.
