Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung held talks with visiting President of the Cambodia Senate Samdech Say Chhum in Hanoi on December 16, dealing with an array of important contents of comprehensive cooperation between the two legislatures.
Hailing Cambodia’s developmental achievements made recently, Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung reasserted that Vietnam places special importance to its cooperation and friendship with neighbouring countries, including Cambodia.
He expressed his belief that the visit by the Senate President will cement the traditional friendship between the two countries.
The Cambodian guest showed his joy of visiting Vietnam and spoke highly of the country’s renovation accomplishments. He said he believes that Vietnam will reap new achievements in her industrialisation and modernisation under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Regarding parliamentary cooperation, the leaders said they are delighted at the sound relations between the two law-making bodies, the frequent exchange of all-level visits, human resources training, experience sharing, and mutual support at regional and international forums.
Building on the traditional friendship and growing cooperation, the leaders agreed to increase all-level visit exchange and support each other at parliamentary forums.
The legislatures will step up their role in supervising the enactment of reached agreements, especially the progress of border demarcation and marker planting, and cooperation in economics, trade, investment, culture-education and national defence, they stressed.
Vietnam will continue providing the Cambodia National Assembly with technical assistance and support in personnel training and human resources development.
The two countries will work together to educate the young generation on the two countries’ traditional solidarity and special friendship, the leaders said.
They agreed that the countries will increase cooperation, share viewpoints and consult each other in international issues of shared concerns.
Touching upon bilateral affiliation, the Cambodian Senate President gave high estimation to the pace of border demarcation and marker planting, citing the fulfillment of 83 percent of the workload.
That outcome reflected concerted efforts made by the two countries’ people in implementing a cooperation agreement on land border, determinedly building the borderline of peace, stability and development.
Say Chhum spoke highly of Vietnam-invested projects in Cambodia, mentioning to those in telecommunication, mining, healthcare, and banking in particular.
He expressed his hope that two-way trade will hit 5 billion USD this year and soar in the following years.
The Cambodian guest will be feted by NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung later on the day.
He arrived in Hanoi on December 15 for an official visit through December 17.-VNA
