Hanoi (VNA) – Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Assembly Do Ba Ty onJanuary 18 hosted a reception for a delegation of the Canadian Parliament who are in Vietnam for the 26th Annual Meeting of theAsia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26).

Tyreiterated Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace,cooperation, development; diversification and multilateralisation of relations;active and proactive international integration; and being a friend, atrustworthy partner and a responsible member of the international community.

Inthe foreign policy, Vietnam treasures the friendship and cooperation withCanada, which is one of the world’s most developed countries and plays animportant role in the international arena, he said.

Thelegislator stressed that Vietnam wants to develop the comprehensive partnershipwith Canada in the principle of respecting independence, sovereignty, territorialintegrity and political institutions of each other, for mutual benefits.

Heexpressed his hope that the two legislative bodies will contribute todeveloping Vietnam-Canada relationship more comprehensively and intensively,especially in such potential spheres as economy, trade, national defence,sustainable development, environmental protection and climate change response.

Inreply, Canadian Member of Parliament Terry Sheehan emphasised the need for the two countries’legislative bodies to increase the exchange of all-level delegations,especially high-level ones, and between parliamentary agencies, in order toshare experience in law-making, law enforcement and decision-making, thusfacilitating the affiliation between the Governments and businesses of the twocountries.

TheCanadian Government and Parliament have attached importance to developingrelations with Vietnam, he stressed.

The MP said that over the past time, Vietnam has proven itself as an idealdestination in Asia-Pacific, a country with political stability and atrustworthy friend of Canada.

Canadianparliamentarians will continue to promote cooperation with Vietnam as well asits National Assembly, while closely coordinating with the country atmultilateral forums and mechanisms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union andthe Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, he pledged.-VNA
