Hanoi (VNA) – The opening of the 14th National Assembly (NA)’s sixth session was televised nationwide on October 22 under the chair of NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

At the opening sitting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented a report on national socio-economic situation in 2018 and the socio-economic development plan in 2019, including mid-term assessment of the implementation of the socio-economic development plan for 2016-2020.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee delivered a report on opinions and petitions sent in by voters and people nationwide.

Chairman of the NA’s Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh presented the evaluation of the realisation of the legislative body’s resolution on the socio-economic development plan in 2018, three-year implementation of the 2016-2020 plan and the socio-economic development plan in 2019.

At a preparatory session earlier in the morning, the NA Standing Committee agreed to add some additional contents into the agenda, including the election of State President, the ratification of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement on the Trans-Pacific Partnership and related documents, as well as the extension of the validity of Resolution No.30/2016/QH14 on pilot issuance of e-visas for foreigners entering Vietnam.

The committee suggested delaying the submission of the Law on Special Administrative-Economic Zones to the meeting and cancelling the building of the draft Law on Public Administration after acquiring feedback from the public and lawmakers.

Member of the NA Standing Committee and head of the Deputies Work Committee Tran Van Tuy presented a report on Resolution No.589/NQ-UBTVQH14 dated October 20, 2018 of the NA Standing Committee on giving disciplinary measures against former Minister of Information and Communications for the 2011-2016 tenure Nguyen Bac Son by stripping him of his position as Minister of Information and Communications for the 2011-2016 tenure, and asked the Prime Minister to decide on the case.
