Montevideo (VNA) – The official visit to Uruguay byNational Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue is an important diplomatic eventthat has grabbed special attention from local media.

Leading press agencies of the South American country have fullycovered Chairman Hue’s important activities, including his meeting withPresident of Uruguay Luis Lacalle Pou, talks with Speaker of theSenate and Vice President of Uruguay Beatriz Argimon and Speaker of the House ofRepresentatives Sebastian Andujar, as well as meeting with President of theSouthern Common Market (MERCOSUR) Parliament (PARLASUR) Gustavo Penades.

They stressed that Chairman Hue’s visit holdsspecial significance as it is the first trip to this South American nation by asenior leader of Vietnam since the two countries set up diplomatic relations 30years ago.

The visit will help further intensify cooperation between thetwo parliaments, thus helping build up political trust and mutual understandingand promote bilateral sustainable cooperation, they noted.

Local media also reported the visit’s outcomes, including the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese NA and the Senateand the House of Representatives of Uruguay, saying this is the first time theVietnamese parliament and the two legislative bodies of Uruguay has inked sucha deal, which shows the importance that both the upper and lower houses of Uruguay attach to the reinforcement of ties with theSoutheast Asian country.

Media outlets of Montevideo also covered the top Vietnameselegislator’s meeting with Mayor Mauricio Zunino and highlighted localadministration and people’s honour when Chairman Hue accepted the invitation tobecome an honorary citizen of this city.

Particularly, Uruguayan leaders frequently updated theirsocial network pages with news on the visit. The Facebook page of SenatePresident Beatriz Argimon shared information about the welcome ceremony and thetalks with Chairman Hue. Meanwhile, images of the honorary citizenship presentationceremony posted by the Twitter account of Montevideo city have recorded over7,000 views./.
