National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan concluded her working visit to the European Parliament and left Brussels, Belgium, for Doha, Qatar, on April 6 morning (local time) to attend the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU -140) and related meetings.

Brussels (VNA) – National Assembly ChairwomanNguyen Thi Kim Ngan concluded her working visit to the European Parliament and leftBrussels, Belgium, for Doha, Qatar, on April 6 morning (local time) to attendthe 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU -140) andrelated meetings.

The Vietnamesetop legislator is attending the IPU-140 at the invitation of IPU PresidentGabriela Cuevas Barron, and Chairman of the Consultative Assembly of QatarAhmad Bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud.

Established in1889 in Paris, France, the IPU now comprises 178 members and 12 associatemembers. It aims to enhance exchanges between parliaments and contribute toprotecting human rights worldwide.

Since Vietnam joined in April 1979, its activeparticipation has been acknowledged by other members. Over the years, relationsbetween the Vietnamese legislature and other parliaments have beenstrengthened. 

Vietnam hostedthe 132nd IPU Assembly in April 2015, during which the Hanoi Declaration wasadopted, contributing to devising the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.-VNA
