 Tien Giang (VNA) – Chairwoman ofthe Vietnam National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan presented 100 gifts tofamilies of social welfare policies, poor households and victims of AgentOrange (AO)/dioxin in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang during herpre-Tet visit to the locality on February 4.

She also granted another 200 gifts to childrenwith disabilities and their peers in extreme difficulties in the province.

On this occasion, the top legislator attendeda programme in support of the poor, needy children and AO victims jointly heldby the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and SocialAffairs and the National Fund for Vietnamese Children.

At a working session with local leaders, NAChairwoman Ngan asked them to pay attention to social policy beneficiaries, thepoor, children in special difficulties and AO victims, along withsocio-economic development, and national defence and security.

She also lauded achievements the provincerecorded in 2017, with gross regional domestic product (GRDP) expanding by 9percent, budget collection at over 7.3 trillion VND (321.2 million USD), up 4.9percent against the set yearly target and 10.7 percent year-on-year, and exportturnover at 2.5 billion USD.

In 2018, the province’s GRDP is expected togrow by 9-9.5 percent while its per capita income is projected at up to 48.2million VND (2,121 USD) annually and export revenue at 2.65 billion USD. Thenumber of poor households is hoped to reduce by 3.69 percent.

NA Chairwoman Ngan on February 3 paid apre-Tet visit to the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, where she presented morethan 3,500 gifts worth some 2.5 billion VND (110,000 USD) to families of socialwelfare policies, needy children, poor households and AO victims.

She also attended a ceremony to hand over 140houses, six education facilities and medical equipment funded by Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank) to Ben Tre.

Earlier, the top legislatorand her entourage visited families of martyrs and war invalids in Chau Thanhdistrict, Ben Tre province.

On February 4, Deputy PrimeMinister Truong Hoa Binh visited workers in the Mekong Delta province of LongAn ahead of the Lunar New Year, praising their contributions to nationalsocio-economic development.

The same day, head of theCommunist Party of Vietnam Central Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai and representativesof the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour presented Tet gifts to workers ofthe metro route No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City. -VNA
