Can Tho (VNA) – National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Nganattended the celebration of the 44th anniversary of the liberationof Can Tho city on April 26 during her trip to meet voters there.
The celebration was also for the 44th anniversary of the liberationof South Vietnam and National Reunification (April 30), the 133rd anniversary of International Labour Day, and the 129th anniversaryof President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday.
Vo Thanh Thong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of the Mekong delta city ofCan Thor recalled the undaunted, heroic struggle of Can Tho’s people andsoldiers for the city’s liberation and together with the nation to achievenational reunification in 1975.
Over the past 44 years, Can Tho’s authority and people have always stood unitedto surmount US war consequences, implement policies honouring those whorendered services to the nation, maintain political stability, and spureconomic development for local people’s better living conditions, he said.
He called on local people to continue standing united in weathering challengesin the reform, bolstering the great unity bloc, strengthening the Party andpolitical system, and achieving fast and sustainable economic development.
The effort aims to turn Can Tho into a wealthy and cultural city, workingtogether with the nation to successfully implement industrialization andmodernization, he said.
At the event, NA Chairwoman Ngan and Can Tho leaders awarded 30-year Partymembership badges to eight revolutionary veterans. -VNA
