NA Chairwoman attends ceremony marking Vietnam-Netherlands diplomatic ties

TheHague (VNA) – Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Assembly Nguyen ThiKim Ngan highlighted the continuous development of the Vietnam-Netherlandscooperation in all areas over the past 45 years while addressing a ceremony inThe Hague on March 26.

The toplegislator attended the ceremony marking the 45th anniversary of diplomaticties between Vietnam and the Netherlands as part of her official visit to thecountry from March 26-28.

Vietnamand the Netherlands have become a strategic partner of each other in majorspheres like climate change response and water management, and food securityand sustainable development, she said.

Suchcooperative achievements have been reaped not only for the past 45 years butmore than 400 years since Dutch vessels anchored at Vietnam’s Hoi An port totrade rice and pepper, the NA Chairwoman stressed.

Nowadays,the Netherlands is affirming its role as Vietnam’s leading European investmentand trade partner, with famous businesses like Heineken, Damen, Unilever,Fiesland Campina and Philips, she said.

Theleader hailed contributions of the Dutch firms to Vietnam’s socio-economicdevelopment and integration, as well as cooperation between the two countries,for the sake of their people.

Thesectoral strategic partnership has created a premise for bilateralcollaboration in all related areas like marine economy, infrastructure,agriculture, national defence and education, she said.  

NotingVietnam’s reform efforts in all fields, NA Chairwoman Ngan said the country hasreceived valuable support of the Netherland on the path, through variouscooperation programmes.

Theleader expressed her belief that the bilateral relationship will continue toyield fruits, and that cultural and art exchange programmes, along withinvestment and trade promotion forums to be held in the two countries in 2018will help bring the them closer to each other.


Speakingat the ceremony, Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Cora vanNieuwenhuizen, emphasised similarities shared byVietnam and the Netherlands.

Sheapplauded cooperative achievements gained by the two countries over the pastdecade, especially in water management and climate change combat, with the mostnoteworthy being the Mekong Delta Plan 2013.

TheNetherlands wants to maintain the close cooperation with Vietnam towards aMekong Delta of sustainability and prosperity, she said. -VNA
