National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung suggested Vietnamese and Cuban legislative bodies share experience and information in a bid to increase their mutual understanding and cooperation, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

At a meeting with Vice President of the Cuban National Assembly Ana Maria Machado Mari on the sidelines of the fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in New York on September 3 (Vietnam time), the Vietnamese top legislator said the two sides should maintain regular exchanges of visits of National Assembly leaders and specialised agencies in the coming time.

He asked the two countries’ friendship parliamentarians groups to seek concrete measures to raise their mutual understanding, thus helping boost the friendship and cooperation between the legislatures.

NA Chairman Hung took the occasion to congratulate the Party, State, National Assembly and people of Cuba on their significant achievements over years, including the country’s restoration of diplomatic ties with the US.

The Cuban NA Vice President said her country is accelerating economic reform and Cuban is eager to to learn from Vietnam’s lessons in socio-economic development as well as national construction.

She extended her invitations to the Vietnamese top legislator to visit Cuba.

Also on September 3, NA Chairman Hung met with former US House of Representative member Joseph P. Kennedy and businesses of the US.

The US businesses voiced their hope that the Vietnamese NA leader, in his capacity, will create the best possible conditions for them to invest in Vietnam, emphasising that economic ties will help bring the two countries closer.

NA Chairman Hung said Vietnam is working to create a transparent legal system, facilitating foreign firms’ operation.

He stated economic and trade ties are always a cornerstone and a driving force of the bilateral relations, and that Vietnam perpetually considers the US its leading partner in this front.

The legislator pledged optimal conditions for businesses, including those from the US, while calling on the US leading groups to step up their investments in his country.

He suggested the US companies operating in Vietnam pay more attention to environmental issues and social responsibility while helping Vietnam with personnel training, technological transfer and sustainable development.-VNA
