Myanmar's union parliament begins 7th session

The 7 th regular session of Myanmar's Union Parliament began in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw on July 1 as a follow-up of separate sessions of the two Houses last week.
The 7 th regular session of Myanmar's Union Parliament began in thecapital city of Nay Pyi Taw on July 1 as a follow-up of separatesessions of the two Houses last week.

The session was attended by 600 out of 646 parliament members.

In the opening speech, Speaker of the Union Parliament U Khin AungMyint called on parliament members to raise their spirit of serving thepublic.

According to the agenda, the parliamentwill discuss efforts to join the World Bank's Multilateral InvestmentGuarantee Agency - MIGA Convention and the Convention on the Means ofProhibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer ofOwnership of Cultural Property.

In addition, the delegates will debate a bill on the Central Bank of Myanmar among others.

In the framework of the session, the National Defence and SecurityCouncil will meet to discuss the peace process of the government's PeaceMaking Committee as requested earlier by Speaker of the House ofRepresentatives (Lower House) U Shwe Mann.

The 11-member council was formed in March 2011 with President U Thein Sein being its chairman.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
