Hanoi (VNA) - British ForeignSecretary Boris Johnson has urged Myanmar to tackle the Rohingya crisis, whichis at risk of turning into a humanitarian disaster over poor sanitation at Bangladeshrefugee camp.
As part of his four-day visit to Myanmar, Johnsonmet Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi in Naypyidaw on February 11 to discuss theSoutheast Asian nation's Muslim Rohingya ethnic minority and how almost 700,000of them can be repatriated safely after fleeing to Bangladesh to escapeviolence.
Johnson arrived in Myanmar from Bangladesh,where he visited Rohingya refugees.
Violence broke out in Rakhine state aftergunmen attacked 24 police posts and broke into a military outpost in Rakhine onAugust 25, 2017, with the country’s army responding with brutal clearingoperations that have led to accusations of crimes against humanity.
The Bangladeshi government announced onNovember 23 last year that its country and neighbouring Myanmar have agreed onreturning Rohingya refugees.-VNA
