Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar’s President U Htin Kyaw has resigned after twoyears in office, the President’s Office said in a statement posted on Facebookon March 21.
According tothe notice, Htin Kyaw stepped down because he wanted to “take a rest”.
The noticesaid a replacement would be in place within seven working days. The parliamentis in session this week, and a new president could be voted into place by theend of the week.
VicePresident U Myint Swe will serve as acting president until the parliamentchooses a replacement, said Chief of the President’s Office U Zaw Htay.
Htin Kyawwas elected as Myanmar’s President on March 15, 2016. He has been the firstcivilian President of Myanmar since 1960.-VNA
