Myanmar plans to draw more tourists from Hong Kong, Macau

Myanmar is planning more promotional activities to attract visitors from Macau and Hong Kong, while implementing digital marketing to develop the country’s hotels and tourism sector, reported the Myanmar News Agency.

Hanoi (VNA) - Myanmar is planning morepromotional activities to attract visitors from Macau and Hong Kong, whileimplementing digital marketing to develop the country’s hotels and tourismsector, reported the Myanmar News Agency.

The intention was discussed at a recent meeting in Nay PyiTaw between Myanmar Minister of Hotels and Tourism U Ohn Maung and Chairman ofthe Hong Kong Macau Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Lin Khin Wan.

The discussion looked into such matters as arrangingtraining courses to increase the number of ICT experts at the Myanmar Ministryof Hotels and Tourism, providing suggestions and technical assistance on theestablishment of tourism web portals, and arranging study tours by Hong Kongtravel agencies to Myanmar.

Myanmar has granted visa-on-arrival to travellers from China,including those from its special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau,starting from October 1, 2018.

According to the Hotel and Tourism Ministry, Myanmarattracted about 3.2 million foreign tourists between January and November lastyear, up 2 percent from 2017. Of the number, 38 percent were Chinese.-VNA
