Hanoi (VNA) - Myanmar has introduced the traditionalVietnamese martial art vovinam in the curricula of six national sport academiesin Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Madalay, Mon, Rayah, Shon and Sagain.
Myanmar’s sports ministry and the martial art federation havechosen to develop the sport in the long-term.
Myanmar plans to host the Southeast Asian Vovinam Championshipin July and vovinam will also be on the docket at the Southeast Asian StudentsSports Festival in December in Nay Pyi Taw.
On June 5, the Vietnam Vovinam Federation worked with MyanmarMinistry of Health and Sports and Myanmar Martial Art Federation to hold atraining programme for Myanmar’s vovinam referees.
Vovinam is practised with and without weapons. It is based ona balance of hard and soft motions and actions. The martial art techniqueincludes training of the body and mind and uses hand motions, elbows, kicks aswell as escape and levering techniques.
Vovinam was founded by late grandmaster Nguyen Loc in Hanoiin 1938. It has more than 2 million practitioners in nearly 70 countries.-VNA
