Myanmar, India sign various cooperation deals

New Delhi (VNA) – Myanmar and Indiainked seven cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding during IndianMinister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj’s official visit to Myanmar on May10-11.

The seven documents included the one on landborder crossing.

During the visit, Swaraj met with MyanmarPresident Win Myint and State Counsellor, Minister for Foreign Affairs Aung SanSuu Kyi.
The two sides discussed boundary and borderrelated issues, peace and security matters, as well as development in Rakhinestate, including the return of displaced Rohingya people, India’s developmentassistance to Myanmar, ongoing projects and other issues of mutual interests.

The Indian Minister also met withCommander-in-Chief of Myanmar Defence Forces Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Swaraj also reiterated India’s readiness andcommitment to helping the Myanmar government in addressing issues related toRakhine state. India was already in the implementation stages of variousprojects that would respond to the needs of different sections of the Rakhinestate population, she added.

The Minister also underlined the need forsafe, speedy and sustainable return of displaced people to Rakhine state.-VNA
